Vox Mia - Adding My Voice to the Chorus

As Big as Tractors

Yet one more example of why we like Jon Stewart, via CrooksandLiars.com:

CHENEY: You know, I think when the history books are written, that we will look back on this period of time and we will say, on 9/11, we really thought within six months, we would be attacked again, maybe six weeks. It’s been more than six years and that is not an accident. I think this administration – my husband and the President – deserve a lot of credit for that.

STEWART: Okay.

CHENEY: Good (laughter)

STEWART: Well, alright. There was, I mean, there was the anthrax thing. And then there was-well, you know, the first time they bombed the World Trade Center, it was eight years until we got attacked again. And they weren’t apparently doing anything…

CHENEY: Well, yes, but there were many attacks in between 1993 and the World Trade Centers coming down in 2001. Remember the USS Cole, for example. There were worldwide bombings going on, the bombings in embassies in Africa. So the terrorists weren’t reluctant to damage American interests and kill Americans. Friends?

STEWART: We are friends, it’s just…you know they have been doing that all these past six years. They’ve been…I mean, you know, the Spanish bombing and the English bombing and all the bombs in Iraq…

CHENEY: Yes, but I’m talking about American interests [emphasis added]

STEWART: Aren’t we interested in…? Alright, I assumed that they were our allies.

John McCain, the “War Candidate,” on the Daily Show

Just one more illustration of the huge brass-ones that Jon Stewart swings: Jon interviews the war candidate, John McCain — via CrooksandLiars.com.

McCain got very angry that Stewart called them out for using the “you’re not supporting the troops,” theme and was trying to filibuster the segment… He tried to use the troops as a wedge. Stewart got hot and fought back… McCain started to stutter. (rough transcript)

Stewart: All I’m saying is you cannot look a soldier in the eye and say questioning the president is less supportive to you than extending your tour for three months when you should be coming home to your family.

    McCain: Every American…

Stewart: And that’s not fair to put on people that criticize…

    McCain: Jon…

Stewart: And you know I love you and respect your service and would never question any of that—this is not about questioning the troops and their ability to fight and their ability to be supported. And that is what the administration does and that is almost criminal.

Goodbye to the 109th Congress

Jon Stewart’s farewell to the outgoing Republican congress, via Crooks and Liars:

Stewart: That’s all for the 109th. Let’s hope they move on to… bigger… and…. ahh…f*ck it. Let’s just hope they move on.

Hackett – Jon Stewart Gets it

The Daily Show gets it. Jon Stewart gets it, while the establishment insiders in the Democratic party don’t. Back in 2005, during a special election in Ohio, Paul Hackett emerged as an unlikely Democratic candidate in a heavily Republican district where the Republican candidate usually wins by 20 or more percentage points. However, Hackett, a former Marine and a veteran of Bush’s war of choice in Iraq, did far better than expected in the heavily tilted Republican district, nearly winning the special election 48% to 52%. Hackett, a strong Bush critic and a supporter of gay marriage, then decided to run for the Ohio Senate seat that’s up for grabs in the 2006 elections.

Of course, wouldn’t you know it, the ever timorous establishment insiders in the Democratic party decided to torpedo Hackett’s candacy; because, it appears, the former Marine just ruffled too many feathers within the party with his outspokenness.

With that in mind, the folks at The Daily Show decided to offer their media expertise to "soften" Hacketts political image; and thereby make him more attractive to the timorous Democratic party establishment. Take a look at the video, Jon Stewart gets it (video courtesy of Crooks and Liars):
