Juan Williams: ‘Sometimes I Just Want To Scream’

As I watched FauxNews this Sunday I couldn’t help but to blurt, Juan, you’re my hero. Here’s what prompted my reaction, via ThinkProgress.com:

After enduring years of posturing on Iraq by Fox’s Brit Hume and the National Review’s Bill Kristol on the Fox News Sunday roundtable, Juan Williams reached his limit. This morning, Williams said, “Sometimes I just want to scream. You guys have been going on since this thing began.”

Williams noted that Hume and Kristol “don’t give credit to people…who said from the start this is a mistake.” Instead, “now it’s everybody’s a surrender monkey or impatient or squeamish or weak.”

[...]

Transcript:

WILLIAMS: Squishy, impatient, you know, they’ll be in the land of milk and honey? What do you imagine, an American administration is coming in, Republican or Democrat, after President Bush that’s just going to lay down and run away like scared little —

HUME: It will not be phrased that way. Listen, Juan, it’s very simple.

WILLIAMS: This is really — sometimes i just want to scream. You guys have been going on since this thing began. I mean, you don’t give credit to people, Nancy Pelosi, Howard Dean, Barbara Lee, people who said from the start this is a mistake. You put them down. Now it’s everybody’s a surrender monkey or impatient or squeamish or weak. Why can’t you say, hey, there’s a real problem in Iraq?

UPDATE: Crooks and Liars has a longer clip of the Fauxnews segment.

Olbermann on Fox News Memos

Keith Olbermann did a good job of unmasking the Faux News memo that was originally exposed by the HuffingtonPost.com. Video courtesy of CrooksandLiars.com:

Fox (Faux) News: Weapon of Mass Deception

Faux News continues to make a joke of its "Fair and Balanced" tag line. As we learned from Out Foxed, the Faux News brass makes it a habit to send memos to its employees with "orders" on what to be on the lookout on that day. With the recent Democratic victory of both the House and Senate, you just knew that Faux News would be going after the Dems… well, here’s the Faux News memo with the latest marching orders (via HuffingtonPost.com):

Huffington Post has obtained an internal Fox News memo written by the network’s Vice President of news. The memo details Fox’s game plan the day Democrats won control of both the Senate and the House.

FOX NEWS INTERNAL MEMO: "Be On The Lookout For Any Statements From The Iraqi Insurgents…Thrilled At The Prospect Of A Dem Controlled Congress"…

Feingold: The President Does Not Have a Legal Leg To Stand On

Senator Feingold makes standing on principle and demanding accountability seem so effortless — why can’t more Dems follow his lead? Here’s Senator Feingold on the Conservative Republican Approved Propaganda (CRAP) channel, otherwise known as FauxNews:

WALLACE: "Senator, in a hearing this week, you said that the president’s wiretap program is, and I quote, "one of the greatest attempts to dismantle our system of government in history." And you called John Dean as a witness, who said that this is worse than Watergate. Senator, do you really believe there is any comparison?"

FEINGOLD: "Actually, I do think this is worse. Not in terms of personal misconduct. Our greatest priority in this country is fighting the terrorist elements that attacked us on 9/11. But when the president breaks the law and doesn’t admit that he’s broken the law, and then advances theories about being able to override the law on torture, and having a preemptive doctrine of war, what he’s trying to do is change the nature of our government."

WALLACE: "But wait, wait, wait. That’s not — but Senator, I mean the fact is, President Bush briefed the congressional leaders, both House and Senate, Republican and Democrat, also the leaders of the Intelligence Committee, Republican and Democrat, both House and Senate, more than a dozen times before and during this NSA wiretap program. Isn’t that a big difference?"

FEINGOLD: "Chris, Chris, where I come from here in Wisconsin, if you break the law and you go tell people you’re breaking the law, that doesn’t make it OK. If you’re breaking the law, you’re breaking the law. In this case, the president does not have a legal leg to stand on."

WALLACE: "Let me explore that Watergate comparison a little bit more. Has President Bush created an enemies list? Has he used the federal government to punish his political opponents? Has he authorized break-ins of his political enemies?"

FEINGOLD: "Well, again, Chris, this is not a criticism of the president as some sort of criminal law, day-to-day problem, like President Nixon had. This is really a much bigger deal. As George Will has said, this was the very reason for the revolution that we had in this country, is that we did not want a monarchical president…

So this is actually, even though in terms of the president’s personal conduct not as serious, much more dangerous to our system of government, to our republic, and frankly, Chris, it weakens us in the fight against terrorism, to have a president who’s thumbing his nose at the laws of this country."

Check out the video over at Crooks & Liars. Democrats, pay attention, this is how it’s done! Great job Senator Feingold.

Faux News

Faux News just can’t help it self. The Republican bias of Faux News is so blatant that its reporters almost trip over themselves trying to tow the Republican party line. This is precisely the reason why Faux News has had to apologize for the second time this week for going public with what were clearly bogus anti-Kerry items.

The “Communist for Kerry” group first came to my attention when several bloggers noted that a news item on the Faux News website mentioned the parody group as a legitimate organization supporting the Democratic candidate. Of course, by now the news item has been rectified to reflect that the organization is bogus, and the following was added to the online article:

Editor’s Note:

In a version of this article that was published earlier, the Communists for Kerry group was portrayed as an organization that was supporting John Kerry for president. FOXNews.com’s reporter asked the group’s representative several times whether the group was legitimate and supporting the Democratic candidate, and the spokesman insisted that it was. The Communists for Kerry group is, in fact, a parody organization.
